About the Quick-Change Tool
Post System...
Most professional machinists
know that "time is money", and being able to change tools more
quickly keeps costs down. For the hobby machinist, the profit motive is not
the reason for a quick-change setup, but rather to maximize the amount of time
you spend cutting while minimizing the amount of time spent in the less fun
process of changing tools. This dovetailed tool post makes it a quick process
to change from a facing tool to a boring tool, or from a cutting tool to a
parting tool, for example. Just release the locking screw using the hex wrench
provided, lift off one holder, drop on the other holder, lock the screw and
you are ready to go. Tool tip height is adjustable with a knurled brass nut.
The three steel holders included with the set are for a 1/4" square
cutting tool, a 3/8" round boring tool and a parting tool blade (cutting
tools not included). The base locks to the lathe table with a single T-nut
like a conventional tool post, but also included is a slot around the base to
accept an angle clamp (included) for a more secure mount.
Though not included in the
special price, a fourth holder is also available to hold inserted tip carbide
bits. (P/N 2295 is $85.00 and includes a carbide insert, screw and Torx
driver.) Additional tool holders can also be purchased should you want to
have, for example, several different 1/4" form tools pre-loaded in
holders for rapidly moving from one to the next on a repetitive job.
